Day 1: Cairo -
-
Alexandria Sightseeing
-
After breakfast you will be picked up by
your expert English speaking Tour Guide
from your Hotel in Cairo, then
transferred on to a comfortable air
conditioned vehicle for your drive to
Alexandria (approximately 3 hours).

Today you will explore the Ancient Greco
- Roman Port city of Alexandria which
was once a bustling Port during the
reign of Alexander the Great.
-
You will begin your day of tours to
include the Catacombs of Kom
ash-Shuqqafa ( known as the largest
Roman burial site in Egypt).
-
Also a visit Pompey’s Pillar, a Roman
triumphal column, the largest of its
type constructed outside of the imperial
capitals of Rome and Constantinople.

Another main attraction for you to
explore is the Citadel of Qaitbey built
in the 1480's by Sultan Qaitbey on the
site of Alexandria's ancient lighthouse
and one of the seven wonders of the
ancient World.

Lunch will be served during your tours
in a quality restaurant. A visit to the
famous ‘Bibliotheca’ is a must see
attraction known as the the Alexandria
Library, a huge modern structure hosting
millions of books and is the scholarly
focal point in all of Egypt.

Finally you
will transfer to your hotel and
overnight stay in Alexandria.

Day 2: Alexandria -

Rosetta Sightseeing
- Cairo
-
You will be collected from your Hotel in
Alexandria and driven about 1 hour by
road to the the City of Rosetta, now
known as Rashid.
-
On arrival at Rosetta, you will be taken
to the Rashid Museum which is one of the
original unique styled red and black
brick houses within the City’s small
winding streets. A full tour of the
Museum with your Guide to discover a
replica of the Rosetta Stone inscribed
in 3 languages, Ancient Pharaonic,
Demotic, and Ancient Greek (the original
currently on display in the British
Museum). From here, we will take a
walking tour around the small local
streets and Souq to discover the local
life and markets whilst heading to the
preserved Ottoman Homes.

Moving on to discover a second House
within the City’s streets and other old
house frontages. The House of Amasyali
is of a very ornate nature and
considered one of the finer examples. It
has lovely lanterns on its facade and
especially designed interior which
allows cool breezes to circulate around
the house.

A further visit to the Mill of Abu
Shaheen which will uncover a house for
trade serving the household and the
local community.

After your tour of the Houses, you will
walk a short distance with your Guide to
visit the local ‘Hanging Mosque’, a
unique construction and is one of only a
few Mosques in Egypt built on an upper
level in order to have storage units
underneath for shops and supplies.

Finally, you will take a short drive to
the Citadel on the outskirts of the
City. built around 1479 and lying next
to the Nile river with views of the
Mediterranean sea, the one of only 2
points in Egypt to join the sea from the
Nile.

You will then leave the Citadel and head
back from Rosetta towards Cairo with a
stop off for lunch before returning to
your Hotel in Cairo.
