  • A very fascinating and informative walking tour through History to medieval Old Moez Street Cairo stepping back in time to discover this large area with Ancient Gates, Walls, Charity Centres, Old Houses, Mosques and Educational Institutions. This was the first recorded large community built by the Fatimids after they conquered Egypt around 969 AD. An eclectic mix of historical periods from Fatimids, Mamelukes, Ottoman Turks and more with stunning designs, materials and scenery unseen elsewhere on such a large scale.

  •     You will be collected from your hotel in Cairo after breakfast for your full day of the area known as Moez Street with an abundance of historical places often missed yet totally deserving of a visit. 

  •    Stop 1 -

  •    Entering through the Old Gate on the Southern end of Moez Street (and known as the South Gate and Bab Zuwela), this historical gate served many purposes.

  •     Directly to the left once inside, is the tower above the gate and Minaret to which you can climb up and get the most astonishing views across the area including the Souk (Market), many Mosques and The Citadel of Saladin.

  •    Within this complex are many additions of walls, brickwork and even Columns taken from the Greco - Roman Period when Alexander the great ruled in Alexandria.

  •    Stop 2 -

  •    Walking along Moez Street, a short distance along you will arrive at Tusun Pasha -Mohamed Ali Pasha’s son-(Sabil&Kuttab) Sabil is public water fountain serving numerous purposes including charitable assistance to the poor with food and water supplies.

  •     Under the Sabil ground, you will take the steps down to the underground storage area, which was used to store the water supplies in order to keep a regular supply to the area.

  •    Then you will pass by one of the Mamelukes complexes dating back between 13th - 14th centuries (Mausoleum, Sabil, Kuttab and Madrassa).

  •    Stop 3 -

  •    Continue walking along MoezStreet.Then crossing to the other side of Moez Street to visit the El Ashraf Brisbay Madrassa ,and then to the Qalauon Complex’(Mausoleum, Madrassa and Hospital) that was a focal point of the community in the old times.

  •   Lunch will be served at a local restaurant during the tour.

  •   Stop 4 -

  •   A short stop at the Textile Museum where you will find a unique collection of ancient woven exhibits not found anywhere else in the world. Ranging from early Pharaonic styles to Greco - Roman, Islamic and beautifully designed Coptic christian tunics.

  •    Stop 5 -

  •    The next stop in route is a traditional ‘Hammam’, (Sultan Inal’sHammam) a bathing and steam rooms used by both men and women and used at specific times for each.

  •    Stop 6 -

  •    A short distance along is a 17th century home, which was used by the middle class families known as ‘Bayt al-Sihaymi, a rather ornate design which was typical of this period with influences from Europe and Turkey. 

  •   Stop 7 -

  •    Next is a visit inside the Hakim Mosque before exiting through the North Gate of El Moez Street. The North Gate was the exit gate used when the Armies of Egypt were heading out to battle. 

  •   Stop 8 -

  •    Your tour will finish with a short walk to the Gate known as ‘Bab El Nasr’, which was the Gate where the Armies returned through when they came back Victorious from battle.

    Here your walking tour will end with a transfer back to your hotel in Cairo.
