Abdeen Palace - Cairo
-
After breakfast, you will be collected
from your Hotel by your expert English
speaking Tour Guide for your informative
tour of some of the fascinating yet
often neglected sites in Cairo.
-
First stop will be the vast palatial
site known as Abdeen Palace, originally
designed by French architect Rousseau
with construction beginning in 1863, and
finally inaugurated in 1874.
-
Named after it’s owner AbidinBey, its
interiors and contents are considered
make it one of the most grand Palaces
worldwide.
-
On walking around the spacious grounds,
many Cannons are strategically places
and were donated to the Egyptian
Government by the British after the War
in Egypt and
2nd World War.
-
The most surprising element of the
Abdeen Palace, is its vast collection of
priceless gifts donated from all over
the world from Kings, Princes,
Governments, Army Generals and
dignitaries. The Palace is now a Museum
hosting up to 5 Museums including the
Silver Museum, Arms Museum,Royal Family
Museum, and the Presidential Gifts
Museum with a new edition of the
Historical Documents Museum.
-
You will be fascinated by some of the
priceless gifts including a golden
sword, solid silver dishes and hundreds
of military artifacts ranging from
Persian armour, swords, and modern day
war weapons.
-
The Royal Family Tombs - Cairo
-
After your first tour, you will be
driven with your Guide to see the hidden
and surprisingly ornate Royal Tombs from
the 1879 to the 1892 Period in Egypt.
-
Heading through Cairo after the Mohamed
Ali Citadel, sits a ‘City of the Dead’
where many cemeteries lie with whole
family communities living there.The
Mausoleum of Mohamed Tawfiq and his Wife
was said to be designed in it’s
elaborate fashion by the architect who
designed the Khedive Palace
FabriciusBey.
-
On entering the main gates of the
Mausoleum, it looks surprisingly
neglected and uncared for. It is hard to
believe that this was the home of Royal
Tombs. However, once entering the the
Mausoleum, you will be amazed at the
sheer size and ornate details of these
main 2 Tombs decorate in what was known
as ‘Ottoman Baroque’ style. His wife
Amine, was known for her generosity to
the poor and nick named the ‘ Mother of
Charity’, therefore a wel respected
royal figure. There are other smaller
tombs within this room of other family
members also.
-
Moving on to a nearby location, you will
end your tour to visit the Tomb of
Princess Shanika, then you will be
transferred back to your Hotel in Cairo.
